SHOPPING
Groceries
The Costco near the airport is the best place to buy your bulk groceries. Near the house, you can walk to Times Market and Long's Drug Store. There's a Safeway up the street, and there's a Foodland a mile south on South Kihei Road. We also like the Aloha Open Air Market. Azeka Place Behind the house, there's an outdoor shopping center with several restaurants, shops, rental places, and the Post Office. We love to eat at Nalu's and Coconuts, and frequently get take-out from the Thai and Vietnamese restaurants. The donuts at Home Maid Bakery are to die for. Ace is handy if you need a hardware store. There are scuba, snorkeling and moped rental shops we recommend. And Long's Drug Store across the street has just about everything you need. Shops at Wailea For upscale shops and dining, visit the Shops at Wailea. Check out their calendar for special events, like Polynesian dancing, art shows, and basket weaving classes. |
Paia
This surf town is filled with quaint boutiques. If you like to shop, this is a must-go spot. Makawao About 10 minutes up the road from Paia is the tiny town of Makawao. It has more boutiques, art galleries, and the famous T Komoda Store & Bakery. There's also the Makawao School of Massage where you can get affordable massages from students (book in advance). Lahaina/Ka'anapali If you venture over to the West side of the island, visit the main street in Lahaina. There are several art galleries, shops, restaurants and historical sites. Don't miss the Banyan tree at the south end that takes up an entire city block! Go another 15 minutes past Lahaina and you're in the resort town of Ka'anapali. Whaler's Village is a large open-air shopping center on the beach. Check out the calendar for fun activities for kids, like making leis or learning the Hula dance. |
